What is tartar sauce?
Tartar sauce is a type of sauce, which derives from mayonnaise.
It consists of an emulsified sauce, That’s to say a base containing fat (butter and egg yolk), acid (citric acid of lemon juice), and aromatic seasonings (chives, dill, tarragon, onion, mustard and capers).
In the traditional cuisine, it is used to accompany baked fish, seafood, cold roasted egg dishes and vegetable preparations.
Nutritional value of tartar sauce
Like all sauces containing a fat base, tartar sauce is a fatty condiment, providing us enough energy, since fat (present in the oil) is the most calorie nutrient that exists.
But, fortunately, not everything that we highlight in fats are negative traits. Fats, as we bring this type of sauce, are the only natural source of fat-soluble vitamins. These types of vitamins are essential for the proper development of the individual and must be supplied by food.

History of tartar sauce
Tartar sauce comes from France, and his name “Tatar” referred to the Tartars, the Mongolian people. It is believed that the name “tartar sauce” refers to use in typical preparations of the Tartars, as an accompaniment to meat and fish.
