What side effects can star anise produce?
- The consumption of star anise in food is considered safe when taken in the established quantities.
- Contact dermatitis: direct contact with the fresh plant or fruits can cause dermatitis due to anethole content.
- Do not combine the consumption of star anise with alcohol intake.
- In some people, star anise can cause nausea and vomiting.
Star anise poisoning is characterized by neuronal symptoms, such as delusions, memory loss, and tremors. In the presence of any of these symptoms, and suspected intoxication, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
