Botanical description of Javanese pepper
Javanese long pepper (Piper retrofractum) is a climbing plant much like the common long pepper (Piper longum), with which it is often confused sometimes.
It is a short gnarled perennial vine.. Leaves large, stalked, oval or oblong shaped, up to 20 centimeters long.
Inflorescence in pedunculate flower spike that comes from the main stem node, opposed to the leaves. Size between 2.5 and 8.5 centimeters long.
Flowers are greenish yellow and arranged in spiral along the spine.
The fruit of Java long pepper is a small drupe, which is arranged in the flower spike forming a compact fruiting, welded, reminiscent of black catkins. Hard when dry, between 2 and 3 (up to 5) cm long.

This species is a more spicy pepper than Piper nigrum.. It has been attributed with suitable properties for the following anomalies:
