When you should not take passion flower
What contraindications does passion flower posses?
Passion flower can not be combined with medicines with similar properties, such as tranquilizers, anxiolytics, antihistamines, sleeping pills, etc.
Also its use is contraindicated in infants or children, pregnant or lactating women. Lactating women provide the principles of this plant through milk. The presence of uterotoxic alkaloids does not make it suitable for use during pregnancy or lactation.
The use of this plant could produce adverse reactions in people allergic to it.
Why is Passiflora contraindicated in infants and children?
This plant is contraindicated because it contains alkaloids and other principles that are toxic for babies and children.
It is generally recommended that children under 3 years of age should not be given and the amount given to children up to 12 years should be proportionate to their weight.
For this reason, pasiflor preparations should not be provided during pregnancy and lactation.
Beware of alcoholic preparations of passionflower
Some preparations with passionflower contain alcohol. These preparations should NOT be given to people who are in the process of discontinuing alcohol.
