Risks of consuming the nasturtium plant
- Vomiting: Nasturtium has components that stimulate the gastric nerve, which in some sensitive people, or consumed in large quantities, can
cause nausea, dizziness, vomiting and digestive upset.
In people who suffer from intestinal diseases, such as Crohn’s disease or irritable bowel syndrome, nasturtium can trigger an outbreak.
- Stomach pain: Due to its components that irritate the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, it can cause stomach pain, gastritis, etc. It is a contraindicated plant in case of stomach ulcer or other types of digestive ulcers.
- Dermatitis: In some people it can cause irritation and pain.
- Flushing: Nasturtium plasters or poultices can cause redness in the affected area and stinging.
