Herbal treatment for flu
Phytotherapy. Medicinal plants preparations in internal use
Among all the medicinal plants we can use to treat flu, we can point out the following:
– Garlic (Allium sativum L.) Having such a richness in sulphur-containing components, this plant, together with onion, becomes of the best natural remedies to cure infectious processes of respiratory tract.(Influenza, bronchitis, pharyngitis, etc.) (Raw in salads) (7 drops of essential oil a day)
– Borage: (Borago officinalis) It increases sweat, so, it is particularly interesting to help fighting pectoral diseases: cough, flu, sore thoat, bronchitis, cold, etc. (Decoction of an ounce of dry leaves per liter of water. Drink 4 small cups a every day)
– Cabbage (Brassica oleracea) In order to alleviate bronchitis make a decoction of a cabbage leaf in glass of milk during 15 minutes. Distribute it throughout the meals of the day) the same decoction is useful in influenza, common cold…etc. (4 tablespoons daily of cabbage juice produced by pressing the plant)
– Vervain (Verbena officinalis) (Infusion of a teaspoon of dried plant per cup of water for 10 minutes. Drink 2 or three cups a day)
– Lime: (Citrus aurantifolia) Key lime contains at least 10 antiseptic components.(Take lime juice 2 times a day)
– Kumquat: (Fortunella spp) Because of vitamin C and phenols, kumquat is very useful to treat flu and other winter diseases (Take the whole fruit, skin on)
– Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) because its bactericide and depurative properties, it is suitable for the treatment of most frequent respiratory diseases, such as bronchitis, cold and influenza as well as to avoid respiratory spasms in tuberculosis, asthma, allergies and hay fever (Steam inhalation of a handful of flowers in a litre of hot water)
– Wild marjoram/oregano (Origanum vulgare) Being expectorant, antiinflammatory or antiseptic of the respiratory system, it is very useful for breathing ailments caused by infectious processes, as cold, flu, sore throat,bronchitis, etc. eliminating cough, reducing the inflammation in bronchi and helping in the elimination of the germs (5 drops of essence a day) (5 ml of extract of fluid)

– Birch (Betula alba L) Birch has febrifuge properties that can be used to reduce fever in respiratory diseases such as influenza, colds, and so on. (Decoction of a teaspoon of crumbled dried bark per cup of water. Take three cups per day)
– Licorice (Glycyrhrriza glabra) It has got glycyrrizyn. The ability of this component to inhibit the growth of the virus has been used to combat a range of diseases of viral type. (Make a decoction with a teaspoon of dried root per cup of water. Take three glasses per day maximum). It can not be used in case of type II diabetes, in patients with hypertension, those who have little potassium in the blood, or those suffering from hepatitis and during pregnancy.
– Wild celery (Angelica archangelica)
– Ginger (Zingiber officinale) It is very useful to relieve nasal congestion and to alleviate the pain that occurs in the joints as a result of an accumulation of toxins produced by microorganisms that cause the flu. (Infusion of a teaspoon of dried root per glass of water. Take a couple of glasses a day. Add the juice of half a lemon to enhance its value.)
– Echinacea (Echinacea) (1000 mg per day of echinacea supplement divided into 5 daily doses)

– Mint (Mentha spp.) Mint is rich in menthol, a component with diaphoretic and anti congestive properties (Increases the production of sweat and decongestes respiratory tract) These properties have been exploited in the treatment of flu and cold because it is able to reduce fever by means of heat evaporation from the body. It also opens the respiratory tract favoring breathing. (10 minutes infusion of a spoonful of the dry plant. Drink two glasses per day)
– Violet: (Viola odorata) Violets can help make the flu more bearable, especially when the patient presents with thirst attacks or when fever is very high. (Infusion of a half teaspoon of dried flowers per cup of water. A couple of cups a day)
– Sundew (Drosera spp.) Drosera extract contains plumbagin, a first antibiotic against a range of bacteria and viruses. It is used as a remedy for flu, colds, to treat respiratory infections and enteritis.
– Hibiscus (Hibiscus sp.) (Steam vapor hibiscus that is made by adding a few drops of extract of hibiscus in the bath water)
– Lavender (Lavandula officinalis, Lavandula latifolia) (15 minutes infusion of a spoonful of dried flowers per cup of water. Take it hot and sweetened with honey)
– Honeysuckle (Lonicera caprifolium) (Infusion of a spoonful of dried flowers per cup of water for 15 minutes Take a couple of cups a day, sweetened with honey)
– Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) (Decoction of 3 g of dried leaves per cup of water. 2 cups a day sweetened with honey)

– Lime (Tilia x europaea, Tilia platyphyllos, Tilia cordata): Its diaphoretic properties are capable of increasing body sweat. The increase of body heat can help to promote the treatment of influenza and other diseases of the respiratory tract (Infusion half teaspoon dried flower per cup of water. Take a couple of cups a day.)
– Greater plantain (Plantago major) (Syrup made with the juice of the plant mixed with equal parts of sugar. Two tablespoons a day.)
– Sweet bay (Laurus nobilis) (Infusion of a pair of leaves in a cup of water for 10 minutes. 4 cups per day)
– Rosemary: (Rosmarinus Officinalis) (Infusion of dried leaves and flowers. Three cups per day)
– Common vervain/ Common verbena: (Verbena officinalis L) (Decoction for 25 minutes of 100 g. of dried leaves per liter of water. 2 cups a day.

Other natural resources to combat flu
