Due to its mild diuretic properties, canary seed should only be used by people with hypertension or heart disease under medical supervision and prescription. This can lead to blood pressure imbalances, or if potassium loss is significant, it can enhance the effect of medications, causing adverse effects.
- Due to its insoluble fiber content, canary seed is not recommended for people with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, people with diverticulitis, or people with irritable bowel syndrome.
- Handling birdseed can cause contact dermatitis.
