Has arnica any contraindications?
Arnica is used on the skin, so that all the plant contraindications refer to external use.
– Pregnant women, during lactation, infants and children. Arnica is a toxic plant including when used externally, so its use is not recommended in these cases. You must consult with a qualified physician.
– Sensitive skin. Poultices of arnica can cause flushing (reddening of the skin) and skin irritation. Its use is not recommended in sensitive skin.
– Open or bleeding wounds. Plasters or other skin preparations of arnica can not be used on open wounds or bleeding because they can cause poisoning.
– Allergies. Do not use plasters or other preparations of arnica in people who are allergic to this plant or plants of the daisy family (Compositae).
