CHARACTERISTICS OF CAPSANTHIN
What is capsanthin?
Capsanthin a pink pigment that is found in red peppers with other carotenoids such as capsorubin.
Capsanthin is shown in greater proportion in peppers, reaching 60% of the proportions of all flavonoids in this food.
Capsanthin is a components that belongs to the group of flavonoids.
Capsanthin properties
Capsanthin has antioxidant properties, so it helps the body get rid of free radicals and exerts anticancer function primarily by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Its power as an antioxidant is higher than beta carotene in carrots.
Sources of capsanthin
This component appears mainly in ripe peppers and in paprika, which is the powder obtained by grinding this fruit. Paprika is the main source for the extraction of this component to prepare capsanthin supplements.
Taken as a supplement, it appears in combination with other carotenoids.
Capsanthin toxicity
Pregnant or lactating women should not take supplements of capsanthin, although it is wise to acquire this principle through foods.
